Steering begins

The steering team has had some trouble getting the rudders constructed. We tried hot wiring complete parts out of 2″ foam. Not a success. Check out the surface finish.

We are going to try and get the rest done with fanfold foam.

The work on the thrust duct began earlier this month. First step was to cut the two plywood discs to the size specified in the plans. We did that by making a circle cutting jig out of a piece of 1×4 screwed to the router. The router was then screwed to  aboard at the right [...]

The students came up with a great contraption with the hot wire. In order to make the hot wire process more stable and predictable they clamped the hot wire bow to one of the tool cartsfrom the machine shop. You can see a picture of it here.
