Welcome to the Auburn High School Industrial Systems Technology Hovercraft Build Log.
The hovercraft project began in earnest today. This past weekend I addressed one of my larger concerns by creating a hot wire to cut the foam. I made the final decision to use Dow style insulation foam instead of regular white styrofoam because the white foam companies were not working at the pace I’d have expected and because the shipping would have been outrageous.
I visited Spencer lumber today and spoke with Steve Spencer about he plywood we need and about he insulating foam. I was afraid it would be rather expensive to get the foam because I didn’t expect anyone in the south to have 2″ foam. It turned out Steve did some research and found an industrial roofing company in Beauregard who not only had it in stock, but was also willing to donate it to the project.
I also ordered most of the drive components. Some from Fastenal who through Tommy Thompson has graciously agreed to sell us our needed supplies at a tremendous discount. The other from Universal Hovercraft who has been very helpful over the phone and is our supplier for the craft plans. We will be building a UH-13P here is a link to the performance specs and to some other 13Ps that have been built for pictures.
I began pursuing a partner for paint and for possibly making labels for the decoration on the craft.

Glad you are up and running. Looks like a wonderful project. Are you going to be able to post pictures?
I believe pictures should be no problem. I have to get some out of the camera to find out though.
